Swindon Mind were present at this years successful Spring Community Fair which was organised by Voluntary Action Swindon (VAS) and held at at the TWIGS Community Gardens at Cheney Manor. The feedback from VAS on the event was resoundingly positive:  “Thank you all for your time and contribution to the Spring Community Fair held on Wednesday – well over 230 people visited the stalls throughout the day with as many as 140+ of those not having heard of the service before that day!

Many of the stall holders found the networking element of the day really useful and felt that this information would come in useful in the work that they do, and where relevant can be passed onto their own service users. The event was an opportunity to make Swindon residents aware of the local support services and how these services can support them or their loved ones if needed – and that was achieved!

Many conversations also took place with potential volunteers, supporters of their services and potential future service users which is beneficial to Swindon residents and to the service providers.

I would also like to say a big thank you to John Markey, Russ Francis and Jumbahadur Gurung who supported us all in making this day a success – and a special thank you to TWIGS community Gardens for providing the venue and being the perfect host!

Thank you too to the Red Rooster Theatre group for entertaining us all on the day!

With regards,
Voluntary Action Swindon”

‘Children’s mental health services need more cash’

Increased funding for children’s mental health services will improve future funding for the NHS, says a counsellor.

Maria Burchell, project co-ordinator at Swindon Mind Self Harm Counselling Service (formerly Preservation Around Self Harm or PASH), currently works with 50 service users aged between 16 and late 50s.

She spoke out as the Mental Health Network, which represents NHS mental health trusts, claimed significant amounts of allocated funding have not been invested into children’s mental health services.

Andy Rowland interviews Harry Toffolo

Harry Toffolo

Andy Rowland interviewed Harry Toffolo for Swindon Viewpoint and Swindon Mind’s Creative Mind Radio.  Andy guided Harry through a wealth of footballing questions, from his season long loan being supported by the Supporters Trust, the ambition of promotion and Harry’s future whether at Norwich or Swindon.

As the interview progressed Andy and Harry turned their conversation to mental health and dementia.  They discussed their own personal and family experiences and how raising awareness and breaking the stigma of mental health is so important.

We’d like to thank Harry Toffolo for his time and commitment to supporting Swindon Mind raise awareness of the work we do in the community and mental health awareness.

Our thanks to Martin Parry and Swindon Viewpoint too.
